American International School of Monrovia
-
The American International School of Monrovia (AISM) needed a new logo to reflect their growth, expansion, and commitment to preparing students for a complex future. The design brief emphasized inclusivity, representing the diverse student body and their evolving role as global citizens. Additionally, the School Director envisioned a logo that showcased both AISM's connection to Liberia (through the Liberian flag) and its relationship with the United States.

I designed a new logo to reflect, communicate the school’s growth and expansion, and mission to prepare their diverse student body to thrive in an increasingly complex world and to generate innovative solutions to challenges of the future.

This logo was inspired by the challenge of a key note made by the School Director’s input of maintaining the representation of Monrovia by incorporating elements of the Liberian flag and its relationship to the US and the desire to give the new generation of students school pride. The new logo started with understanding Monrovia's history, the school's history, and its relationship to the United States. Through research and notes I took from the School Director's knowledge, the exploration of the logo legibility of the school's name and interaction of graphic elements took shape during ideation and led to further assets for student enrollment.

The new AISM logo successfully communicated the school's growth, diversity, and commitment to preparing students for a globalized future. The design fostered a sense of school pride while visually acknowledging AISM's Liberian heritage and American connection.

A New Logo For A Growing Legacy.
American International School of Monrovia is an independent, non-profit, co-educational day school located in Congotown, a suburb of Monrovia. After several years of peace and a strong desire to reopen the school from the ACS alumni, local Liberians, and with the unwavering support of the American Ambassador Booth, The American International School of Monrovia (AISM) opened its doors on October 8, 2007, to a new school and a fresh start. The opening of AISM was a strong signal to international organizations, companies, nonprofits, and diplomatic communities that Liberia could once again be a family post. Moreover, more Liberian families began returning home to AISM.
The school has a solid community and a rich historical foundation that works together to support one another.
